A Bit More On Play Practice*

Play Practice* starts this Wednesday (9/15) and I want to tell you a little more about the offering before we get started.

Moving Image by HK Goldstein: Water tumbles over the edge of Gullfoss into an unseen chasm. Mist fills the empty space between the relentless waterfall and the mossy green banks opposing it. Cliffs stretch across the back of the frame giving way to …

I was inspired to create this series from a conversation I had with a friend recently about the similarities I see between the principles of yoga and the foundations of clowning.

You may or may not know that I’m a classically trained clown. Clowning opened up my relationship with my body and self in a way I never expected. A teacher of mine once told our class, “your clown is who you would be if the world never told you no.” And I’ll never forget that. Clowning is all about getting in touch with your own instincts and curiosity.

At Play Practice* that’s exactly what we’ll be cultivating - getting in touch with our curiosity and instincts through yoga. We’ll explore energizing asana, pranayama and meditation together. I’ll also draw on aspects of my training to show how the practices support each other. My aim is to create a space for playful liberation - a space where we can feel free.

I’ll be offering Play Practice* over Zoom on Wednesdays at 10am EST from September 15th-December 15th, 2021. Class will be 45 minutes with an optional 15 minute check-out at the end. I ask for an exchange of $8 per class. Anyone who reserves a spot will receive a recording of the practice that they’ll have access to for 24hrs, regardless of live attendance.

If you would like to enroll in the entire series in advance and receive a 20% discount, contact me

Students of all genders, bodies, ages, and experience levels (including none!) encouraged to join.

I’m so looking forward to sharing this practice with you.

Love,

HK

P.S. - Yes, the name of this offering IS a theatre pun. A sweet nod to the many afternoons of my life spent at play practice.

Moving Image by HK Goldstein: HK rolls backwards into the grass, their knees curl into their chest and then drop them to the earth. They lay in the grass and take a breath. The afternoon sun peeks through the trees.
